Capsule wardrobe must have: The White Shirt

A small, curated wardrobe can come in all shapes and styles – from super simple, scandi to bohemian and embellished but there are a few key items that form the basic staples whatever your style. A great pair of black skinny jeans for example, or a well worn denim jacket, or a beautiful, simple, white shirt. The classic white shirt looks like you’ve borrowed it from your favourite boy – cotton, oversized, creased, worn like you’ve just dragged yourself out of bed. Or crisp, classic, preppy and chic. There are so many ways to wear a great white shirt:

  • With jeans – black or blue, skinny or not and sneakers, flats, boots or heels
  • With denim shorts or a crisp cotton skirt and beachy hair
  • With something beautiful and embellished – your winter 2018 sequin pencil skirt for example or a great jacket
  • With white trousers for that expensive St Tropez vibe
  • Untucked and under a sweater – perfect for a productive day at work

I could go on and on but I’ll let this little mood board say it all…

I’ve curated the best of the high street below, including some less classic options that still hit the spot but with added interest for those who struggle to keep it super minimal. Aim for 100% cotton or linen and unless oversize already, size up.

I’ll be wearing mine under cashmere this spring and with black skinny jeans. And maybe with a silk bias cut skirt, if I succumb to that trend. How will you wear yours?
